It claims to be able to convert the GPT partition into a Hyper-V / Virtual PC format however to convert this image to a VMware image VMware Converter tells me its unsupported. I had to use a FREEWARE converter by starwind that clams to Convert VMDK to VHD and VHD to VMDK for free.
This seems to have done the trick conversion takes a while with starwind as its a sector by sector copy. If anyone has any alternative methods that may speed this process up please let a comment. As for now this method theme to be the best solution to avoid a complete rebuild.

- Use the Disk2VHD tool from http://live.sysinternals.com/disk2vhd.exe to convert the partition(s) to VHD files.
- Download and convert VHD to a VMware file of your choice: http://www.starwindsoftware.com/download-starwind-converter http://www.starwindsoftware.com/converter
